Project Description

This project would provide additional stormwater detention in support of flood damage reduction in the Addicks Reservoir Watershed. Stormwater detention basins reduce flooding risks by storing excess stormwater during heavy rain events and slowly releasing it back to the bayou when the threat of flooding has passed.

Location

The West Little York Stormwater Detention Basin, HCFCD Unit U500-01-00, is located north of West Little York Road and west of Highway 6 on Langham Creek, HCFCD Unit U100-00-00, in the Addicks Reservoir watershed of West Harris County.

Stage

This project is currently in the DESIGN stage. This stage of the project will result in engineering documents and a bid-ready project manual necessary to take the project into the bidding process and to the CONSTRUCTION stage.

Bond Project List

Bond Project C-37 is a potential "Partnership" project. Total allocation for this project is currently $3 million on the 2018 Bond Program Project List, of which approximately $2.5 million would be partnership funding, if granted, and $500,000 would be local costs. If partnership funds are not available, the project would be funded totally from the 2018 Bond Program as a “Local Only” project.

Project Lifecycle

Every flood damage reduction project is unique. Yet each project begins and ends, with common and predictable milestones along the way. Whether a project moves forward – and how quickly – depends on many factors, including the availability of funding at each milestone, shifting community priorities for flood damage reduction, and other changing circumstances (such as the price of trees or concrete) from year to year.
