Project description

The Friendswood Regional Stormwater Detention Basin project will design and construct a stormwater detention basin on Clear Creek near FM 1959, on property owned by the Flood Control District. This project is a partnership project with the City of Friendswood, Galveston County and the Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District.

The Friendswood Regional Stormwater Detention Basin aims to reduce the impact of flooding by providing mitigation for future channel conveyance improvements in the area. The basin is anticipated to provide anywhere from 1,000 to 1,700 acre-feet in storage.

Location

The basin will be located on an undeveloped 105-acre site along the Clear Creek overbank at FM 1959 and Blackhawk Boulevard.

Stage

This project is in the PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING stage. In this stage, engineers and environmental specialists develop and evaluate possible alternatives, prepare mitigation site plans, project specifications and detailed cost estimates.

PROJECT LIFECYCLE

Every flood damage reduction project is unique. Yet each project begins and ends, with common and predictable milestones along the way. Whether a project moves forward – and how quickly – depends on many factors, including the availability of funding at each milestone, shifting community priorities for flood damage reduction, and other changing circumstances (such as the price of trees or concrete) from year to year.
