project description

The Huffman Area Drainage Analysis was an engineering investigation into the sources of flooding in and around the Huffman area to identify preliminary options to reduce flooding. Preliminary recommendations were generated from this analysis.

  • Luce Bayou (S100-00-00) and several tributaries were analyzed to obtain an understanding of flooding inundation and risks.
    • Recommended projects in this watershed included a proposed bypass channel. At this point in time, the proposed bypass channel project has been cancelled and is not anticipated to resume without community support.
    • Harris County Flood Control District is working with TxDOT on the FM 2100 improvements to complete several minor drainage improvements along TxDOT’s project.
    • Harris County Flood Control District will not move forward with any recommended plans without Commissioner’s Court approval and further community outreach/concurrence.
  • East Fork San Jacinto (G103-00-00) was evaluated to estimate the volume of sediment in the channel by comparing the 2001 data to available digital terrain data from 2018.
  • Cedar Bayou (Q100-00-00) and its tributaries were studied by the Flood Control District through the Cedar Bayou Flood Reduction Study. The information from that study on the Huffman drainage area was also incorporated into this project.

Location

The Huffman drainage analysis area coincides roughly with the Huffman Independent School District boundary. This area drains to the San Jacinto River, Luce Bayou, and Cedar Bayou watersheds, consisting of to the main stem of these waterways and some of the tributaries within the study area.

Stage

This project is currently in the PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING stage.

Bond Project Listing

Bond Project F-110 is a “Local Only” project, meaning that the project will be funded entirely from the 2018 Bond Program.

PROJECT LIFECYCLE

Every flood damage reduction project is unique. Yet each project begins and ends, with common and predictable milestones along the way. Whether a project moves forward – and how quickly – depends on many factors, including the availability of funding at each milestone, shifting community priorities for flood damage reduction, and other changing circumstances (such as the price of trees or concrete) from year to year.
