October 25, 2022 – Harris County Commissioners Court approved the submittal of an updated grant application to the Texas Water Development Board in the amount of $10,500,000, with a required match of $19,573,558, in support of the South Post Oak Stormwater Detention Basin.

June 14, 2022 - Harris County Commissioners Court authorized an application to the Texas Division of Emergency Management for grant funds in the amount of $22,555,234, with a required match of $7,518,412, in support of this project.

March 8, 2022 - Harris County Commissioners Court approved submittal of an application to the Texas Water Development Board for $10,500,000 in grant funds with a required match of $19,573,558 in support of this project.

July 20, 2021 – Harris County Commissioners Court authorized an agreement for design, bidding, and construction phase engineering services in the amount of $699,960 in support of this project.

February 26, 2021 – Harris County Commissioners Court authorized the Flood Control District to negotiate an agreement for engineering services in support of this project.

June 6, 2020 – Harris County Commissioners Court authorized the Flood Control District to accept a preliminary engineering report and to proceed with design and construction of the channel conveyance improvements and associated stormwater detention basin.

December 17, 2019 – Harris County Commissioners Court authorized the Flood Control District to apply for a $10 million Federal Emergency Management Agency grant in support of this project.

December 18, 2018 – Harris County Commissioners Court authorized submission of a grant application to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Pre-Disaster Mitigation Flood Risk Reduction Program in support of this project.

September 25, 2018  Harris County Commissioners Court authorized a $925,000 agreement with an engineering firm to conduct an engineering investigation in support of this project 

May 1, 2018  Harris County Commissioners Court authorized submission of a grant application to the Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant program in support of this project

Project Description

The project includes the deepening of an existing Stormwater Detention Basin and channel conveyance improvements from north of the Sam Houston Tollway to where the tributary joins Sims Bayou near Trafalgar Drive. This project will reduce the risk of flooding for residents, and therefore, shrink the regulatory floodplain while avoiding adverse impacts to Sims Bayou or to the natural environment.

The construction of this project will be funded in part by the 2018 Bond Program approved by Harris County voters on August 25, 2018. The Flood Control District is pursuing the remaining funds needed to construct this project from various federal sources.
