PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Design is now underway for this project, which involves approximately 3 miles of stormwater conveyance improvements and spot erosion repairs along Horsepen Bayou, HCFCD Unit B104-00-00, in the Armand Bayou watershed. The project will widen the channel from Bay Area Boulevard to Clear Lake City Boulevard and incorporate a maintenance access shelf below the top of bank – all within existing Flood Control District right-of-way.

Modifications to the Garden Creek Way bridge over Horsepen Bayou tributary B204-04-00 also are under design as part of this project, but may move on a separate project timeline from the channel modification portion of the project.

The Design stage is expected to be complete in late 2022.

Funding for Design and Construction comes from Bond ID CI-023 in the 2018 Bond Program.

Project Lifecycle

Every flood damage reduction project is unique. Yet each project begins and ends, with common and predictable milestones along the way. Whether a project moves forward – and how quickly – depends on many factors, including the availability of funding at each milestone, shifting community priorities for flood damage reduction, and other changing circumstances (such as the price of trees or concrete) from year to year.
