2016-17 Planting Season

During the 2016-17 tree planting season, which runs from October 2016 through March 2017, the Flood Control District planted native trees on several sites around Harris County. Tree species included loblolly pine, bald cypress, pecan, sycamore, water oak and others.

Planting sites included:

  • 1,637 trees at the Mason Creek Stormwater Detention Basin in the Barker Reservoir watershed of northwest Harris County.
  • 623 trees along a tributary of Big Gulch formally identified as P107-03-00 in the Greens Bayou watershed of east central Harris County. The planting area extended from Wallisville Road to the tributary's confluence with Big Gulch.
  • 800 trees at the Crenshaw Stormwater Detention Basin in the Sims Bayou watershed of southeast Harris County.
  • 4,445 trees at Willow Waterhole Stormwater Detention Basin in the Brays Bayou watershed of south Harris County. The planting area included Compartment 3 of the basin, east of South Post Oak Road. 
  • 1,280 trees along a tributary of Langham Creek formally identified as U132-00-00 in the Addicks Reservoir watershed of northwest Harris County.
  • 1,683 trees along Brays Bayou, from Calhoun Road to Lidstone Street in south Harris County.
  • 478 trees along Cypress Creek, from Latson Street to Stuebner Airline Road in northwest Harris County.
  • 2,099 trees planted at the stormwater detention basin located on White Oak Bayou just east of the Sam Houston Tollway.
