2018-19 Planting Season

During the 2018-19 tree planting season, which runs from October 2018 through March 2019, the Flood Control District planted approximately 11,778 native trees on multiple sites around Harris County. Tree species included loblolly pine, bald cypress, pecan, sycamore, water oak and others.

Planting sites included:

  • 3,339 trees at a stormwater detention basin in the Greens Bayou watershed formally identified as HCFCD Unit P518-03-00, near the Interstate Highway 69 (Eastex Freeway) and Langley Road
  • 3,334 trees along a tributary of Greens Bayou formally identified as HCFCD Unit P145-00-00, from Briarchase Drive to the channel’s confluence with Greens Bayou.
  • 1,558 trees along a tributary of Faulkey Gully in the Cypress Creek watershed formally identified as HCFCD Unit K142-07-00, from Northpoint Boulevard to the tributary’s confluence with Faulkey Gully.
  • 494 trees along a tributary of Faulkey Gully in the Cypress Creek watershed formally identified as HCFCD Unit K142-05-00
  • 620 trees at a stormwater detention basin in the Addicks Reservoir watershed formally identified as HCFCD Unit U501-03-00, near Mason Road
  • 575 trees at the Eldridge Stormwater Detention Basin at Archbishop Fiorenza Park in the Brays Bayou watershed, formally identified as HCFCD Unit D500-04-00, from Eldridge Parkway to Westhollow Parkway
  • 566 trees at a stormwater detention basin in the Cypress Creek watershed formally identified as HCFCD Unit K542-02-00 near Spring Cypress Road
  • 525 trees along a tributary of South Mayde Creek in the Addicks Reservoir watershed formally identified as HCFCD Unit U101-01-01
  • 388 trees at a stormwater detention basin in the White Oak Bayou watershed formally identified as HCFCD Unit E500-03-00, from West Little York Road to Fairbanks-White Oak Road
  • 137 trees along Buffalo Bayou at various locations between Beltway 8 and Shepherd Drive
  • 95 trees along a tributary of Cypress Creek formally identified as HCFCD Unit K134-00-00, near Paradise Valley Drive
  • 62 trees along a tributary of Greens Bayou formally identified as HCFCD Unit P145-07-00, from T.C. Jester Boulevard to the tributary’s confluence with HCFCD Unit P145-00-00
  • Additional trees were planted in cooperation with volunteer groups:
    • 45 trees at a tributary of White Oak Bayou formally identified as HCFCD Unit E135-00-00, near Rio Grande Drive; and
    • 40 trees along a tributary of White Oak Bayou formally identified as HCFCD Unit E131-00-00, between U.S. 290 and Wortham Boulevard
